Five hundred guests attend the annual policeman’s ball
Guests included Larne Mayor Alderman AH Girvan and Mr. J Campbell, OBE JP.
During the evening, many novelty dances were held. Prizes were distributed by Mrs. Cramsie, wife of County Antrim Inspector RD Cramsie, OBE and Mrs. Spears, wife of District Inspector RGN Spears.

Hide AdA focal point of the ball was the new RUC crest “illuminated in bright colours and prominently displayed”. It measured six ft by four ft. The model was made entirely by the personnel of Larne Police Station.
Guests danced to the music of the Wes Rollins Orchestra, Belfast.
The ball was organised by a committee drawn from across Larne police district which included Glenarm, Ballyclare and Whitehead.
On another occasion, RUC officers came into a local balloroom to seek assistance of revellers to change the wheel of a car belonging to an elderly lady who had a puncture.
The chief officer of the RUC in 1961 was Sir Albert Kennedy, who was inspector general until 1969.
