Local athletes turn out for 5k Santa Run in memory of Poppy Davis
The extremely worthwhile event was organsied by club members Chris and Rowena Davis and their family in memory of their daughter, Poppy Davis.
Over 100 runners and walkers donned Christmas attire as they took on the challenge in a bid to raise awareness of stillbirth and neonatal death and, in turn, raise much-needed funds for the SANDS charity, who provide support for bereaved parents and their families.

Hide AdThe second annual running of the event proved to be a resounding success, with many passers-by showing support.
After completing the 5k route, particpants enjoyed refreshments and a very generous prize draw at St John’s Masonic Hall, Larne.

Meanwhile, there was also notable news for East Coast athlete Adele Neill with the announcement that the international triathlete and the club’s veteran ‘Athlete of the Year’ award winner has received a ‘Category 1’ status from Triathlon Ireland.

Hide AdIt means she is now invited to take part in a very select ‘invite-only’ six-race series which provides the province’s highly-rated athletes with the opportunity to race head-to-head with other top-level competitors.
A representative from East Coast described it as ‘just reward for Adele’s performances and commitment over the last few years’.
