Kilrea establish Ireland's first Aussie rules team
The aim of this match was to establish a team of ladies footballers who would be selected to represent Ireland in Italy next month.
This newly formed club, the Kilrea Kookaburras is the first Ladies Aussie Rules club to be established in the whole of Ireland and it falls under the leadership of Belfast Redbacks player Andrew Hickey.

Hide AdThe match was a hard fought contest and it was decided by the Irish selectors that all girls who played the match were eligible to play for the Irish side or a combined European side in October’s Internationals.
In more recent days, the Irish squad have been in preparation for the Eurocup.
They are due to leave Dublin Airport on October 1 to play in the prestigious European International Tournament on the Saturday. With the whole of the nation backing this newly developed team, the ladies will be hoping to bring home some silverware!
