Brilliant finish at Balmoral
BRENDAN Meade took his Ulster Cup squad to Balmoral last Sunday for the first leg of their first round match.
This was a tough draw as Balmoral have a great record in the Ulster Cup. The local team’s performance exceeded all expectations.
Timothy Beattie lost 4 and 3.
John McDowell, 5 up at one stage, got a valuable half point.
Cameron Morton lost 4 and 3.
Dennis Lockhart, an Ulster Cup veteran, won 2 up.
Cathal O’Neill lost 6 and 5.
Gareth McGregor won 2 up.
Gary McCartney won 4 and 2.
Banridge and Balmoral have three and a half points each.
The second leg will be played at Banbridge next Sunday.
It’s early days but this team looks the part. A good run in the Ulster Cup would be something to savour.
