Olympic hit the ground running

Cookstown Olympic 2

Mallusk Athletic 0

Cookstown Olympic got back into league action last Saturday with their first match in 2013 when they entertained Mallusk Athletic.

After a tight match Olympic eventually came away with a two nil win.
It was a very quick start for Olympic as they took the lead after 4 minutes when Ryan Devlin put Liam Hoy away on the right wing and he crossed into the edge of the box were Ryan O’Neill fired past the keeper from 15 yards. The visitors then started to get a foothold in the game and Olympic had chances from O’Hare, O’Neill and Devlin but they could not increase their lead in the remainder of the first half.
Mallusk started the second half brightly and after 47 minutes could have been level only for a great save from Olympic keeper Jamie O’Neill indeed the visitors were throwing everything at the Olympic defense. The second goal did come for Olympic after 55 minutes when Conor O’Hare put pressure on the centre half and the ball broke to Ryan Devlin and he beat the Mallusk keeper to the ball to poke it into the net. The Mallusk centre half’s were having a good game but Olympic were keeping the visitors at bay and the match developed into a midfield battle with no outright chances for either side.
