GAA clubs get three times as much as soccer clubs
Rural Affairs Minister Michelle O’Neill explained the Rural Development Programme does not provide funding to sports clubs for direct sporting activities but that groups can apply for money for projects that benefit the wider rural community.
To date, under the current programme local soccer clubs have received just 29 per cent that of GAA/GAC clubs.

She added: “The Local Action Groups depend on applications being received for each of the six Measures under Axis 3 which are then assessed competitively, and do not seek applications from any organisations. Axis 3 is a demand led Programme.”
