Beating England will ‘stick with me forever’
The 20-year-old played an important part in the amazing win in Bangalore as his team-mate Kevin O’Brien stormed to a record-breaking century to stun the English.
Stirling, who plays for Carrick Cricket Club and County Cricket for Middlesex at Lord’s, took the wicket of star name Kevin Pieterson who made 59. He went on to catch Ian Bell’s shot from John Mooney’s delivery.

Hide AdAt the crease Stirling fired a creditable 32, hitting five fours and a six in the process, before being caught by Pieterson.
His runs, coming on the back of captain William Porterfield’s early exit, set Ireland on course for the victory which will long be remembered for O’Brien’s magnificent 113 off 63 balls. Ireland reached their target of 328 with three wickets in hand.
“To beat England and to beat them the way we did was incredible, making the highest chase in Cricket World Cup history,” Stirling told the Carrick Times.
