Colin returns from injury woes to claim first win of the year
There are several valuable prizes up for grabs in the Saturday Sweep. The top prize this week went to the experienced Colin Smylie. A few short seasons ago, Colin was a key member of the Ulster Cup team, playing off a 10 handicap. Back problems over the last year or so have played havoc with Colin’s swing and his handicap has crept up to 16. He is fighting fit once again and he will certainly be a strong contender for the major prizes during the coming season.

Hide AdSupporters of this sweep should be aware that there were no 2s this week so that means a much bigger pot next week. We will expect a larger than usual number of players next time around, all hoping to hit the jackpot.

2nd Paul Wylie (11) Nett 33.5
MONDAY 13TH JANUARY
Paul Wylie won this 13-hole sweep with a record-equalling 38 points. His gross score was four under par, which is very impressive. The course may be shorter and teeing-up is allowed but birdies are still not easy to get. Paul now shares the record with David Thompson who had 38 points last February. It was a rewarding two days for Paul. He was runner-up on Sunday and a winner on Monday. It can’t get much better than that.
1st Paul Wylie (11) 38 points.
2nd Paul Faulkner (14) 34 points.
THURSDAY 16TH JANUARY
The big question in the Blevins household at the present time is “who will be the most successful on the golf course this season, Gerry or his wife Anne?” Gerry is off to a winning start but Anne is doing intensive practice, awaiting the start of the ladies season. My money is on Anne.
1st Gerry Blevins (17) 35 pts
2nd Bertie Shaw (22) 34 pts
