Donnelly pays tribute to boxing coaches
The Ballymena boxer took to social media last week in his final message before flying to Brazil with the Ireland team.
And in typical fashion, Donnelly didn’t forget All Saints Boxing Club and the coaches who guided him in his formative years.

“Gerry Hamill and Tony McAvoy, this is for you as much as me for the years of work.
“I started off at 13 years old and I’ve had ups and downs like everyone has but I came back and never gave up and now I’m off to represent Ireland at the Games.”
With regard to the sporting spectacle in Rio, Steven wrote: “What will be will be.

“In advance I’ll thank each and every one of you for your comments, good luck, cards etc - I’ll see them all after.

Prior to his departure, Steven received a cheque from Tony McAvoy, proceeds from a fund-raising boxing night held for the Olympian in the Adair Arms recently.
