JUSTICE Minister David Ford says he is powerless over the regulation of social media and that local politicians cannot legislate for it as it is a reserved matter under the Belfast Agreement.
The Minister said: “Regulation of the internet is not an issue which falls within the responsibilities of our devolved Executive. Under the Northern Ireland Act 1998 it is specifically recorded as a reserved matter.
“Decisions on regulation are for central Government to make through the Department for Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS).”
