The repairs are currently underway on a stretch from Glynn village towards Poagstown and the Department said they would improve the surface for those using the footway.
“The footway resurfacing work is part of the Department’s annual footway resurfacing programme,” a spokesperson said.

The spokesperson said: “As a result of underfunding over many years the Department has been operating a ‘limited service’ maintenance policy, which means that only the highest priority road defects are able to be repaired.
“However, the Department has internally reallocated funding to structural maintenance and this is being used to deliver additional schemes in a number of areas including in Larne.”
