DUP and TUV to take top council positions for new term

The party will nominate a candidate ahead of the council’s Annual General Meeting to take place on Monday, June 7.
The Mayor’s deputy will be a TUV councillor.
The council is required under the Local Government Act 2014 to hold an AGM each June.

Hide AdIn addition the DUP, the largest party on the council, will take up five Chair and Vice Chair posts on the council’s committees which come with special responsibility payments.
A special responsibility allowance of £1,000 per month is available to the Mayor, £650 per month to the Deputy Mayor as well as payments to all committee Chairs of £500 and Vice Chairs, £300 per month.
The councillors’ basic allowance is rising from £15,071 to £15,486 per annum.
The TUV will be allocated two vice-chair posts, the Alliance Party, one and Sinn Fein, one.

Hide AdAll committee places are allocated to political parties at the AGM on a proportional basis.
The current Mayor is Carrickfergus DUP Councillor Peter Johnston. His deputy is Ulster Unionist Cllr Andrew Wilson, a Knockagh representative.
