Making waves with music at the Outlet
Ten Banbridge schools will be participating in the water-themed educational and environmental project that will allow children to tune in to a changing world and explore music for global change. This ground-breaking project has been enabled by sponsorship provided by The Outlet shopping village in Bridgewater Park.
SoundWaves is being hailed as an exciting journey through some wonderful music featuring water – from Handel’s Water Music to Pirates of the Caribbean.

Key stage two children will be able to listen to Ulster Orchestra musicians perform, to learn about the orchestra and its vast array of musical instruments as well as rhythmic motion.
The children can also show their creative flair by building their own instruments from recycled materials and composing and performing their own musical pieces on the theme of SoundWaves.
The 30 workshops in schools will be followed by a final concert in each region – open to all schools in Banbridge – allowing thousands of children in the Southern Education and Library Board area to experience the powerful music of a full orchestra.

“Recycling is a big issue in schools and the curriculum and, as water is a renewable energy source, it’s an ideal topic for schools to explore.”
Marketing Manager Christine Watson said that it is very much in keeping with The Outlet’s environmentally friendly and corporate responsibility policies and its ongoing support for the arts in Banbridge district.
