Fancy a game of‘Danderball?’
John Mahon, Community Support Services for Drugs and Alcohol with the Western Health and Social Care Trust explains: “Walking Football is similar to five-a-side football but players are not allowed to run, jog or sprint whether on or off the ball.
“Walking football programmes are well established throughout England, Scotland and Wales and we felt this would be a great way to promote the health and well-being of men over 50 in the local area.

Lesley Finlay, Physical Activity Co-ordinator with the Western Trust’s Health Improvement Department highlighted: “’Danderball’ is a fun, innovative way of engaging men over 50 in physical activity. If there are any football fans out there who feel unable to participate in contact football due to their health, fitness or age we would encourage them to come and see what walking football is all about. Drop into our session from 1 to 3pm in Templemore Sports Complex, Derry/Londonderry on Wednesday 1 October 2014.
“The taster sessions are free of charge and there is no upper age limit or skill required. All men over 50 welcome! You may want to wear comfortable clothing and footwear so you can try out the game. Any coaches or referees who are interested in helping out are also more than welcome.”
