Hide AdA Translink spokesperson said: “There were two separate incidents of damage to two shelters at Joymount, Carrickfergus reported on Tuesday, 23rd March.
“The damage involved one pane of broken glass on each shelter and was subsequently reported to our contractor who maintains our bus shelters. Both shelters were made safe the same day and full repairs were completed on Thursday, 25th March.
“Where there is recurring damage to bus shelters, glass panels may be changed to Perspex or powder-coated mesh. Seating may also be removed. A Freephone number and dedicated email address are also displayed in bus shelters to assist with damage reporting.”
East Antrim Ulster Unionist MLA John Stewart was planning to voice his concern with the PSNI today.

Hide AdSpeaking yesterday, he said: “Just a few weeks after getting this bus shelter fully repaired due to vandalism here we are again. Overnight on Monday it appears some people have decided this bus shelter was causing them offence and the only solution was to smash it to pieces. I honestly do not get some people’s thought process.
“Vandalism, anti-social behaviour and criminal damage have undoubtedly increased over recent times and I have continually raised this issue with the PSNI.
“I am meeting the new PSNI inspector on Friday and will be raising the issues of growing anti-social behaviour and vandalism among other issues.”
Praising Translink and Mid and East Antrim Council staff for their clean up and repair work, he added: “Their response and support thus far has been excellent.”
