Female was ‘pulled from crashed car’

Stephen Dean Porter from Termoneeny Park, Knockloughrim, was fined £400 and banned from driving for 12 months on a dangerous driving charge.
The 30-year-old was also fined £200 with a £15 offender levy for failing to report the injury accident at Castledawson Road on August 31 last.

Hide AdProsecuting counsel said police received a report of a two car accident at approximately midnight and on arrival found a car on its roof.
She said the male driver of the other vehicle had made off on foot leaving the vehicle at the scene.
The lawyer said police spoke to the injured party who said she was driving when she was hit from behind and the car rolled on to its roof.
It resulted in the motorist being pulled from the vehicle by members of the public while her daughter had managed to get out by herself, said counsel.

Hide AdShe added the vehicle driven by the defendant was parked on the grass verge about 20 metres away, and enquiries led police to him.
A defence lawyer said the defendant had never any intention of evading his involvement in the incident. He said Porter had expressed his remorse to the victims.
The lawyer added Porter has not driven since the date of the incident, and asked the court to take this into account when sentencing.
