The Carnegie Free Library was opened through the support of the Carnegie Trust Fund in 1906 and continued as the town’s library until the new building was opened at Pound Street.
The Carnegie Free Library was established, following financial assistance from the American millionaire and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie.

Hide AdAndrew Carnegie sold his steel company to JP Morgan for $480 million in 1901. In addition to funding libraries, he paid for thousands of church organs in the United States and around the world. Carnegie’s wealth helped to establish numerous schools and colleges.
The Museum and Arts Centre is planning a series of events to help mark the 111th anniversary at the start of next month.
There will be Edwardian dressing up for adults and children, arts and crafts, guided walkabouts, Beatrix Potter tales and other activities.
The family day will be held between 11.oo am and 3.00 pm on Saturday, April 1 and admission is free.

Hide AdThis Saturday, at Larne Museum and Arts Centre, there will be a drawing workshop with Kim McCausland, starting at 10. 30 am and a print-making demonstration with John Mulvenna, from 2.00 pm until 4.00 pm.
Visitors can also tour Larne Art Club’s spring exhibition which will be on show.
