SDLP to introduced NI Assemby bill in bid to end period poverty

Upper Bann MLA Dolores Kelly is planning on introducing legislation into the NI Assembly to combat period poverty here.
She has encouraged locals to respond to the party’s public consultation.

Hide AdMr Kelly said: “Period poverty is a problem. Whether it’s low income, barriers to accessing sanitary products or the impact of social isolation, too many people are prevented from accessing the products they need to manage their health.
“We also know that menstrual care can be made difficult by circumstances such as homelessness, abusive relationships and health conditions like endometriosis.
“Access to period products isn’t a luxury, it is a necessity. That is why my colleague Pat Catney is bringing legislation that will make period products free for those who need them.”
