Watch: Magherafelt’s budding young environmentalists receive awards
Education Minister John O’Dowd attended the college recently to meet the winning schools.
He was welcomed by Principal, Ms J Bartley along with Miss P Hanson, Head of Science and Mrs MA Diamond, Head of Geography. St Pius X College’s Environmental Science Competition saw children from Anahorish, Ballylifford, Derrychrin, Holy Family, New Row Castledawson, St Patrick’s Loup, St Trea’s Ballymaguigan and Spires Integrated enter projects that showcase their talents in STEM subjects.

Hide AdThe competition also encourages children to be creative and use their ICT, literacy, numeracy and communication
skills.
The competition awards were presented by college staff in the following categories: Most Creative Award; Spires Integrated, presented by Mrs Mc Kenna, Art. ICT Award; Holy Family, presented by Mrs Mc Stocker. Communication Award; St. Trea’s, presented by Mr Quinn. Numeracy Award; New Row, presented by Mrs Ball and Overall Best Project Award; Anahorish, presented by Dr Ruth Jarman and Dr Karen Kerr, QUB. All participating primary schools were presented with a Barometer and USB Digital Microscope.
